Thomastown, Ballyragget, Callan and Graiguenamanagh are undergoing developments to transform these towns into more attractive, pedestrian-friendly places to live and visit. Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP) approved funding for the four applications submitted from the Kilkenny County Council to get the renovations underway.
The removal of overhead cables and timber poles will greatly improve the visual aesthetics of all four villages. The wires will be facilitated in new underground ducting and chambers. High quality paving materials will be included in the environmental upgrades, while attractive street furniture, street lighting and signage will be provided to create a user-friendly pedestrian environment.
Public safety is a priority, with the implementation of associated traffic calming, regulated parking and proposed footpath improvements.
KLP is pleased to support projects like this, which will provide sustainability to commercial enterprises and tourism in rural towns.
Minister Phil Hogan stated upon the commencement of the project, “I am delighted that the Rural Development Programme and the Kilkenny County Council is in a position to work together with the local community groups involved. We hope that completion of the works in all the areas, will lead to sustainable development and prosperity for the villages.”
This project has received funding from the KLP LEADER Programme as follows: Thomastown: €354,776.25, Graiguenamanagh: €225,000.00, Ballyragget: €268,125.00 and Callan: €255,284.00
